I know there’s always a lot of talk about “surviving” fashion week, and I’ll be the first to admit it can get a little obnoxious. I mean it’s fashion week, it’s not a week in the wilderness with no food or water. So I preface this post acknowledging the fact that I am lucky to have the opportunity to go to fashion week and incredibly thankful! That said, there are certain items that are essential to getting through the week. The NYFW schedule is always jam packed from meetings to previews to shows and parties the day starts at around 7 or 8am and doesn’t end until late night (sometimes very late night). Most days you never even have a chance to go back to your hotel so it’s important to have a few things in your bag at all times that make life a lot easier. I was really happy to partner with CVS to share my NYFW essentials because it’s one of my favorite places to shop (at this point it’s been one of my weekend rituals since high school). One of the best things about it is their 100% satisfaction guarantee. I’ve brought numerous items back to CVS because they didn’t work out (makeup, lotions, etc.) and got a full refund, no hassle and no questions asked. I’m also a HUGE ExtraCare fan, those ExtraBucks add up!
Vitamin E Oil: The list goes on and on for all the benefits of using Vitamin E Oil, but the main reason I love it, particularly during NYFW is because my skin, hair and nails take such a beating between the dry hotel rooms, hair products, air pollution, blow drying, flat irons, etc. I use a few drops on my cuticles at night, and mix it into moisturizer before I go to bed so my skin is hydrated and refreshed in the morning.
Hand Sanitizer: I mean it’s NYC, this needs no explanation.
Makeup Wipes: I definitely wear way more makeup during fashion week and these are a lifesaver when you get home late at night and just want to get your face clean as quickly as possible so you can hit the pillow.
Eye Mask: Even with the black out shades in hotels, there is something about an eye mask that really helps put me to sleep. It’s also nice for the train ride home when I am beyond exhausted and don’t want to be bothered.
Ibuprofen: This is a no brainer. I am a migraine sufferer and have been since I was 7. I am really good about knowing my triggers but sometimes, particularly during NYFW it’s hard to avoid (stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, low blood sugar, too much alcohol, etc, etc).
Lint Roller: I don’t know how, but no matter where I go, my pets hair follows me. Despite my best efforts at ridding all of my clothing of cat and dog hair before I leave, I inevitably get dressed and find myself covered in cat and/or dog hair. I always keep a lint roller on hand because showing up to Lincoln Center covered in dog hair is just not a good look.
Melatonin: This is an old trick from my Mom. Melatonin is a natural hormone produced in our bodies and when taken as a supplement is a completely natural way to help you sleep at night. I recommend using half of a 3mg tablet to start. If you have trouble sleeping while you’re traveling and staying in hotels like me this is a great option.
Spray Moisturizer: Time is everything during NYFW and this spray on moisturizer is a life saver. It sprays on really easily and it’s super lightweight so it doesn’t make a mess on my clothes.
I’m proud to partner with CVS/pharmacy on this “New York Fashion Week Survival Kit.” All opinions expressed are my own and all product claims and program details shared should be verified at CVS.com or with the appropriate manufacturers.
